Buffer time between two sessions: avoiding cascading delays
Buffer time before and after each service: why it protects your schedule, how to set it per service, and which values to keep.

An appointment ending at 11am and another starting at 11am, with no margin, is a day that goes off the rails at the first delay. Buffer time creates this margin automatically, without you having to block slots by hand. Here is how to use it.
What buffer time does
Buffer time is a duration reserved around a service: before, for arrival and settling in, or after, for note-taking and handing over to the next client. It shrinks the slots offered to the client to prevent them touching. Your schedule gains flexibility, without you having to manage it constantly.
The per-service setting
Open the service's page and enable buffer time. Two values appear: the time before and the time after. Each is set separately, and you can disable the buffer at any time. The setting only concerns the chosen service.
For a therapy session, a buffer of 10 to 15 minutes after is often enough to write a note and prepare. Test for a week before adjusting: your rhythm decides.
When to use it
- Long services, such as an assessment, where the end of the session takes time.
- Sessions held at several locations, to leave time to travel.
- Manual practices, such as osteopathy, where preparing the table and the return to calm matter.
When not to use it
A systematic buffer on all services needlessly reduces your availability. If your rhythm isn't tight, keep it for the services that need it. An overly fragmented schedule also pushes clients to choose elsewhere.
Going further
The buffer combines with hours and breaks: read our guide to hours. For a concrete example, see online booking for osteopaths. The details of the settings are in the Services section.
Frequently asked questions
Does the client see the buffer time?
Buffer time serves to protect your schedule. It separates appointments without lengthening the session offered to the client.
Can I set a buffer before only?
Yes. The buffer before and the buffer after are set separately. You can use just one of the two.
Does the buffer apply to all my services?
No, it is set service by service. A long consultation can have a buffer, a short session none.
